Returning to our cup metaphor, remember that a fragment is a piece of a larger whole. If a cup were to break, it would break into fragments. When we talk about sentence fragments, we are talking about broken sentences.

We fix a sentence fragment by adding missing words, phrases, or information.

Example: Consider the fragment, “Which is what he really meant,” and ask yourself, “What information is missing? What can I add to complete this sentence? Explore different ways to correct this fragment.
